Virtual reality bike
Together with the City of Zurich, we have been using virtual reality since 2016 to sensitise cyclists to the dangers of road traffic. Suva has also been involved in the project since 2018 and has had the VR videos translated into all national languages. This is because the safety of cyclists is an important issue: according to Suva, there are around 24,000 bicycle accidents on the roads every year. 83% of these are self-inflicted accidents and 17% are collisions. As part of its offer to companies, Suva provides Suva-insured companies with a free prevention module case ‘Safer cycling thanks to VR’ with four VR glasses and 360° educational videos.
Since the beginning of April 2019, the content developed by Bandara has been part of the permanent exhibition at the Swiss Museum of Transport. In 2023, four new topics were defined and realised as interactive VR videos. On the “Virtual Reality Bike” theme island, visitors can sit on a stationary bike, put on VR glasses and experience dangerous traffic situations up close. In addition to producing the content, we were also responsible for compiling and configuring the hardware. We also developed software that enables easy handling of the interactive VR films, including an analysis tool.
