Dementia Care VR

How might it feel to live with symptoms of dementia? In close cooperation with the Institute for Applied Nursing Science we have developed a virtual reality simulation which allows users to experience an approximation of possible dementia symptoms. The goal of the project is to sensitize nursing professionals in training to such symptoms in an innovative and empathetic way in order to improve cooperation with patients.

The VR experience is part of the Learning Center for Technology-Based Simulation in Dementia Care (SimDeC), which was initiated by the University of Applied Sciences OST in St.Gallen. In a dedicated VR room within the Learning Center, trainees can put on VR glasses and move through a digital twin of the apartment. While they have to perform various tasks, they are confronted with possible symptoms of dementia.
