Germbusters

Medical technology company B. Braun uses virtual reality to train employees and customers in the correct use of hygiene products. For this purpose, we developed the virtual reality game «Germbusters» in which users step into the role of a nurse.

In a virtual hospital, they are given the task of measuring the blood pressure of two patients while observing hygiene measures. This means, for example, that they have to disinfect their hands when entering the room or wipe the blood pressure monitor with a disinfectant cloth after use. If they forget one of these measures, bacteria and viruses will spread in the room – game over.

To make the VR app as simple and intuitive as possible to use, it is operated via hand tracking. This allows users to press buttons, pick up objects or even rub their hands for disinfection. Since the tracking is lost when the hands are intertwined during disinfection, an animation is displayed during the process that shows the correct movements and the correct duration (15 seconds). In addition, an adapted version («soundalike») of the theme tune of «Ghostbusters» is played – with the goal of users taking this catchy tune from the virtual to the real hospital and thus always keeping to the specified time.
